Junior School Curriculum

Good Shepherd Catholic College provides a holistic education which encourages students to achieve their very best. We aim to develop the academic, spiritual, emotional, physical and social potential of each student in our care through a curriculum that promotes Gospel values and a Catholic view of life.

Students are at the heart of our curriculum and school. Our teaching practices and curriculum is responsive to the needs and abilities of our students and fosters in young people a passion and love of learning.

The middle years of secondary school are very important and we provide a holistic curriculum that is sensitive to young adolescents and their development. Our Year 7, 8 and 9 curriculum is engaging, student-centred and offers many opportunities for students to become effective learners, complex thinkers, active investigators, successful communicators, designers and creators and community contributors.

Students in Years 7 - 9 undertake core studies in:

  • Religion
  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Humanities (History and Geography)
  • Health and Physical Education.

In Year 7, each student also participates in a semester unit of Food and Fibre Production, Engineering Principles and Systems (Metalwork), Materials and Technologies Specialisations (Woodwork), Digital Technologies, Industrial Design and Technology, Drama, Media Arts, Music and Visual Art; however, from Year 8 these subjects become an elective. Each student chooses two of these electives in order to continue to gain a broad exposure to a varied curriculum at this developmental age.

The Middle School Curriculum at Good Shepherd Catholic College develops the potential of each student and effectively prepares our young people for success in the senior years of schooling.
