Mrs Meagan Waldon - Acting Principal
Welcome to Good Shepherd Catholic College! This is a vibrant and faith-filled learning community, with a focus on academic excellence and pastoral care. At Good Shepherd, we encourage our students to experience the community, live the values and achieve success. Our students know that whatever they aspire to do post-school, we will help them plan for their future and give them the foundations to reach their potential. Many of our graduates go onto University to study in areas such as Engineering, Medicine, Education and Business. Vocational Education and Training is a popular pathway also at Good Shepherd, with students going on to do apprenticeships and further qualifications in Hospitality, Business Administration and Hairdressing.
Our Pastoral Care program aims to support our students during their learning journey with well-being programs, social and emotional skills and individualised care and attention from their Homeroom Teachers and Pastoral Leaders. We also have a full-time counsellor and are well supported by Student Support Services from the Townsville Catholic Education Office.
The Vision of our College is "To journey together in faith with 'Christ our Light', educating and empowering young people". Through our Religious Education and Pastoral Care programs, we aim to foster the faith and spirituality of our students, celebrating the Gospel values of truth, justice, hope and love.
We look forward to welcoming you to Good Shepherd Catholic College.
Mrs Michele Wood - Deputy Principal (Teaching & Learning)
It was former president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela who said, “The power of education extends beyond the development of skills we need for economic success. It can contribute to nation-building and reconciliation...Young people must take it upon themselves to ensure that they receive the highest education possible so that they can represent us well in future as future leaders.”
Good Shepherd aims to provide quality holistic education in a caring Catholic environment. Secondary school is often where we make our best and most enduring friendships. Indeed, education is important, but so are the relationships we build and the memories we make.
We seek to inspire and challenge our students to both follow and in time, lead that vision.
It’s exciting to be part of the first steps these young people take in shaping their futures.
Mr Jordan Harries - Assistant Principal (Pastoral)
Good Shepherd Catholic College aims to develop the whole-person, as a school that focuses on the holistic growth of our students, we actively position our students to realise their personal potential and help them seek the tools they need to reach their goals and seek the best version of themselves.
As a community we utilise many different forums, such as our extensive pastoral care program to help guide our students to find an outlet, and further develop their skillset to become high achieving students and great humans through the guidance of Christ light.
Being a Positive Behaviour for Learning school, we focus on creating a safe and supportive learning environment for all students. Through a whole-school approach we are actively building our positive engagements and students are currently excelling in many different areas which is very exciting as we continue to implement new strategies to acknowledge and enhance student engagement at Good Shepherd Catholic College.
Mrs Amy Webb - Assistant Principal (Administration)
"Dear young people, do not bury your talents, the gifts that God has given you! Do not be afraid to dream of great things!" Pope Francis
For the young people, education is the key to their future. It is an opportunity to develop God's gifts; and with the right tools, it will provide the courage to dream and achieve these great things! As a community, we need to work together to provide students with the best possible opportunities to succeed, and I encourage families to engage in the life of the College in any way you can.
Each day we work together to live out our Vision, "to journey together in faith with "Christ our light", educating and empowering young people to experience the community, live the values and achieve success. As a College, we will continue to strive for excellence, to provide students with a quality Catholic Education, to empower them to live out our vision and mission.
I joined the Good Shepherd Community at the beginning of 2009, and have had the privilege of witnessing so many of our students achieve greatness. From this time, I begin each day looking forward to witnessing the bright future our students are working towards!
As a community of learners, we can achieve anything we set our minds to. We welcome all to walk this journey with us, and we look forward to working with you all.
